"Carbohydrate Blues"

by Mark Buerschaper

about

To say, that the attempt to lose weight has been a struggle is an understatement. Carbohydrate Blues combines that struggle with relocating to a community that is surrounded by restaurant chains and fast food franchises that make the struggle to maintain healthy eating habits, very real.

lyrics

I had a craving, and put a plan in motion
Looking for seafood, I wanted an ocean
Greasy goodness is what I wanted to see
So I went on down to my local Captain D's

After this week my scale will be in pain
After Sunday, the results remain the same
You exercise and diet, paying deprivation dues
But you still end up with those carbohydrate blues

I woke the next morning with visions in my head
Biscuits and gravy my demanding self said
My week of training was now in peril
As I drove off to my local Cracker Barrel

After this week my scale will be in pain
After Sunday, the results remain the same
You exercise and diet, paying deprivation dues
But you still end up with those carbohydrate blues

Saturday night I'd go out on the town
With only junk food available all around
A decision should be made as obscene as it sounds
Do I go see the King, Colonel or Clown?

After this week my scale will be in pain
After Sunday, the results remain the same
You exercise and diet, paying deprivation dues
But you still end up with those carbohydrate blues

All of my best intentions have gone astray
These fast food menus are going to make me pay
Even though I say I'll have a diet coke for me
I'm telling this to the waitress at Shoney's

After this week my scale will be in pain
After Sunday, the results remain the same
You exercise and diet, paying deprivation dues
But you still end up with those carbohydrate blues

Mark Buerschaper Nashville, Tennessee

Since Aug. 2020, Mark has begun releasing the singles from his album, "One Year B.C." While all of the material was written during the stages of the Covid era, Mark likes to say that 1 and 1/2 songs are only about Covid. The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
