"Sitting on the Square"

by Mark Buerschaper

/

about

A Norman Rockwellesque day in a semi-modern town.

lyrics

A snipers perch from long ago, bad jazz music is in the air
Lawyers are marching to and fro, while I'm sitting on the square
Old men are smoking fine cigars, meter readers they take the city share
Young boys are circling with trucks and cars, while I'm sitting on the square

A lazy summer's day with even lazier clouds,
Provide a background to a spring day
Civil war plaques sit silently proud
As my tobacco it burns away

Idle time is over, it's time to go
The tower clock it now seems to stare
I need to get up and leave the show
The matinee that is sitting on the square

The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
