"Cripple Creek"

by Mark Buerschaper

/

about

This song concerns a road trip that my wife and i made on our honeymoon. We had taken the advice to do so from a white water raft guide and it was far more terrifying than the white water rafting.

lyrics

Here's a tale about my honeymoon
Of which I barely survived
I won't be going back, anytime soon
Because I kind of like to stay alive

A river guide had told us of a city
Where you can play poker and roll the dice
To miss out on that would be a pity
My wife and I drove off and didn't think twice

The city was 8,000 feet up high above the forest below
We were on a trail built long ago
We took those turns easy and we took them slow, and on to Cripple Creek we did go

We rolled on past the boulders and the trees
On the bed of an old railroad trail
A clearing appeared and we could see
A steep dropoff without a guardrail
So if you go visit that mining town
Rent or take your favorite SUV
Look straight ahead and never look down
Or you might have to go clean your upholstery
You'll be 8000 feet up high above the rocks below
Riding on a trail built long ago
Take those turns easy and take them slow
On to Cripple Creek you will go

Mark Buerschaper Nashville, Tennessee

Since Aug. 2020, Mark has begun releasing the singles from his album, "One Year B.C." While all of the material was written during the stages of the Covid era, Mark likes to say that 1 and 1/2 songs are only about Covid. The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
