On the Job Benefit

by Mark Buerschaper

/

about

Sometimes one regrets not keeping in touch with fellow workers after parting ways with the company. This song was inspired in part by Neil Young's "One of these Days".

lyrics

It's a rainy Monday Morning and I'm looking for a new job online
After looking at the measly salaries I feel I should trade my coffee for some wine.
As I watch the creamer swirl my memory drifts back to former careers
I trace forgotten faces and wonder how they are doing after all of these years

Coworkers come and they go
Some of them I never got to know
When I needed a hand I could depend on it
In some ways I guess it was a an on the job benefit

Many were the jobs of which I did tire
And I would have to figure many jobs did tire of me
If there was a regret and a lost desire
It was not getting numbers and names of addressees

Coworkers come and they go
Some of them I never got to know
When I needed a hand I could depend on it
In some ways I guess it was a an on the job benefit

So to all my former fellow coworkers
I hope you made out of that hell hole
And to the ones that stayed and made the grade
I enjoyed spending time with you a long time ago

Since Aug. 2020, Mark has begun releasing the singles from his album, "One Year B.C." While all of the material was written during the stages of the Covid era, Mark likes to say that 1 and 1/2 songs are only about Covid. The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
