To Be Believed

about

As cool as the Glastonbury festival is, I saw an documentary on t.v. about it and was inspired to write To Be Believed. When one segment of society groups another segment of society into a stereotype, they actually become just like the segment that they are rallying against. Which is to say, I'm sure not everybody at Gastonbury shared the same views. If so, then I would be the Hippocratic one. : )

lyrics

I watched the event unfold on the screen
A hippie punk rocker transvestite dream
Dreaming of a new world as well as the end
Portraying visions of hell and heaven

Artists made pieces of discarded material
In a scene that Dali would call surreal
Rejecting the humdrum every day world
While buying wares from half naked girls

Confusion within a utopian vision
Contemplating harmony throughout
The ideal divisions
Shock value remains a high priority
Something to see to have to be believed

Casual passers by were dressed to thrill
In costumes that went far beyond overkill
A casino here and a spectacle over there
Rolling in the mud to abandon everday cares

But where do the manufactured goods
Come from
The items we hold so dear
It's hard to be a caveman when you
Want hi fidelity in your ear

The corporate bands pranced on the stage
While the organic side shows became disengaged
The bonfires glowed on into the night
While philosophers degraded
The lives of suburbanites.

about

Mark Buerschaper Nashville, Tennessee

Since Aug. 2020, Mark has begun releasing the singles from his album, "One Year B.C." While all of the material was written during the stages of the Covid era, Mark likes to say that 1 and 1/2 songs are only about Covid. The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
