"Occupational Years"

by Mark Buerschaper

/

about

Over the course of my years of employment, (Besides being a songwriter!) I have found that the best and most frequent atmosphere of humor and joking around was while I worked in the trades. It is with this observation and sentimental inspiration that I wrote this song.

lyrics

The telephone chimes, forcing your body
To get up and out of bed
Pop some pills and drink the coffee
To clear the cobwebs from your head

Meanwhile tell a joke to get you by
As the occupational years fly on by

Young co workers have no idea
Young coworkers have all the ideas
They'll never say, hey I feel ya

Meanwhile tell a joke to get you by
As the occupational years fly on by

Yesterday's breakthroughs
Are today's common ground
A race against time, was to be found
Requires the memory to stay in line

Meanwhile tell a joke to get you by
As the occupational years fly on by

The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
