Old and Decrepit

by Mark Buerschaper

/

about

As the children of the 60's leave this realm, with the children of the 70's on their heels, it becomes a somewhat depressing thought. This song goes out to the silver haired survivors. What actually makes it worse, is the
organizations that constantly bombard us with ads and emails that remind us of our fragile condition and impending departure.

lyrics

I arrange my meds so they are orderly
I've got new glasses so I can see
Some foods just don't agree with me
Do I have to admit I'm now elderly?

Going to the mailbox creates anxiety
As I receive my weekly of AARP
Hearing aid ads promise better communication
Funeral homes promote my cremation

As the young vultures pick at my bones
For the last coin or reverse mortgage loan
My days are numbered as well as my luck
And as the years go by, I don't give a fuck

Wars and welfare take my tax money
While I have to work till I'm near seventy
There is no such thing as Social Security
While I have to admit I am now elderly

Now I am old and decrepit
While trying to remain a bit intrepid
It's pretty hard to just accept
When you turn old and decrepit

The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
