When Cultures Fade Away

about

As an art student in the mid 1990's, I did a class assignment at a museum featuring middle eastern art exhibits. They were a fascinating departure from the European artists that I had been exposed to in earlier classes.
In 2015, I had been watching the coverage on the news, in regard to the demolition of ancient works of art in the middle east by the terrorist organizations and thought about the absence of the monuments for future generations.

lyrics

An assignment for a class
A glimpse into the past
Given the passion for destruction
I should have known it would not last

I drew the head of a bull
Hooray I got an A
In misnamed oriental museum
There were no signs of decay

When cultures fade away
The sandstorms take their toll
Wiping away the cultures
Of civilizations long ago

The monuments of Kings
And what they represent
Don't always stand the test of time
Or stand in the present

The common man holds the chisel
The common man holds the gun
History is written by the victors
In the blazing hot desert sun

The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
