Down From the Plateau

by Mark Buerschaper

about

This is the final track of my album "One Year B.C." Much like the title cut, it deals with elements of the Covid 19 experience and the effect it had on my personal life.

lyrics

Neon lights have faded away
While saving songs for another day
The sound of whiskey cubes in a glass
Was a favorite hobby of the past

The applause echos in my mind
Highway traffic has been left behind
An exodus in retrospect transpired
Unexpected circumstances destroy desire

The night is quiet with solitude
No worry about being misconstrued
It's a contemplator's delight
Dreaming up new philosophies in the starlight

Memories remain
But the days are the same on the plateau
Maybe life will be less mundane
And a sense of purpose regained

When we come down from the plateau

Counting numbers everyday
Opposing views get in the way
While longing for the days of. old
Profits are made when the voter is sold

Neon lights have faded away
While saving songs for another day
The sound of whiskey cubes in a glass
Was a favorite hobby of the past

The album features the full gamut of his style which runs from introspective folk to novelty and alternative indie genres. Much of the commentary is about perceived social norms. ... more
